Systems Studies back...
Sollerta can undertake and assist with Systems Studies at various levels of complexity. At the highest level, we have experts who are adept at operational analyses to assess the relative capabilities of different concepts over a range of scenarios. While the level of the representation of the system will be broad brush, our OA experts ensure that salient features are retained so that the insights and conclusions are meaningful. Sollerta uses System Dynamics (Vensim ®) where appropriate.
Sollerta manages the development of mathematical models, writing the requirements and defining the criteria for verification of the model (an important part of mathematical model development). Sollerta will, if required, manage the preparation and delivery of the code by selecting and managing specialist subcontractors.

Scientific and Technical Editing and Publishing  back...

Sollerta offers a service which is suitable for the preparation of papers for professional journals or project reports ensuring a consistent high quality in accordance with the client's needs.  Our goal is that the finished article should be understood by an intelligent but non-specialist reader.

Sollerta will critically examine each document to ensure that its meaning is clear and unambiguous.  We will work with the author to prepare the paper for typesetting.  This includes the selection, sizing, editing and placement of figures or illustrations. Sollerta will arrange the preparation of figures if required.  Sollerta has developed a style manual including punctuation, layout and the consistent use of terminology, units and abbreviations.

When agreement to publish has been reached, Sollerta is able to offer typesetting in the required format (1, 2, 3 columns per page) and in the style required by the printing house.  If required we will work with the printing house to ensure the quality of the finished paper or journal.

Requirements Management   back...

To achieve a product that satisfies the customer, it is essential to understand the customer’s requirements. This is easier said than done, with the ambiguity of language and often confusion between those requirements that are essential and others that are "nice to have". Even the most carefully worded tenders can suffer from inconsistencies in the requirements.

As a technical partner of Telelogic AB, Sollerta uses the Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS ® ) which allows a set of requirements to be analysed into their components and dependencies and inconsistencies eliminated. The requirements database that is the outcome of this analysis is a valuable tool, not only as the basis for costing and commercial agreements with a customer. DOORS® facilitates management of change during the projects life and shows the true consequence of all proposed changes. Sometimes a small change to a subsystem can result in major changes rippling through the system.  DOORS®  is therefore an essential aid to project management after contract award. more...

Positioning and Marketing Strategies   back...

Winning business doesn't start with addressing specific tendering opportunities. Companies need to familiarise themselves with the issues surrounding the customer’s requirement in advance of the promulgation of the tender. They thereby position themselves so as to make best use of the limited time available to prepare their bids. Submitting a poor tender is often worse than not submitting one at all. Marketing can similarly be ineffective - if not damaging to a company's reputation - if the company has not previously positioned itself well. Sollerta draws on its experience in providing assistance to Companies in these two closely-related areas, particularly in the context of winning Public Sector Business.

Preparation of Safety Cases   back...

Having held senior positions in MOD, Sollerta consultants have been involved with oversight of the preparation of safety cases for armament projects, ships and the provision of services. They have been responsible for signing safety certificates, and the subsequent maintenance of the safety case. As a company, Sollerta has prepared a safety case for provision and maintenance of a torpedo trials range. Most recently one of the Sollerta consultants attended the course on planning and managing the safety lifecycle for Defence Standard 00-56 Issue 3 ( Part 1 (Requirement) and Part 2 (Guidance) both published December 2004 were issued on the web in January 2005).

Sollerta welcomes the new standard, which is a radical departure from earlier approaches. The standard requires a structured logical argument supported by a body of evidence that provides a compelling, comprehensible and valid case that the system is safe for a given application in a given environment. The structured argument follows a top down approach which not only adds to the understanding of the safety argument, but also enables a complex system to be broken down into simpler more comprehensible subsystems. The safety case can be built up from the safety cases of the subsystems, but always being mindful of the safety issues that arise as the subsystems are integrated.

Def Stan 00-56 Issue 3 can be applied to all situations, whether defence based or not.
